I am proudly 2SLGBTQIA+, gender-affirming,
neurodiversity-affirming, BIPOC-allied, and
trauma-informed.
As a therapist I am person-centred, meaning that I
recognize the value of your experience, and that you
have an innate ability to heal, though life experiences
may have made that difficult or confusing to even try to
do on your own. My job is to accompany and guide you in
doing so. I take an integrative approach to counselling
based on your individual needs, and use EMDR, Clinical
Hypnosis, mindfulness-based approaches (Acceptance and
Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy
(DBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT),
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)), Internal
Family Systems (IFS, also known as "Parts Work"),
Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy
(SFT).
I work with a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, self-esteem, purpose and goals, sex and sexuality, gender issues, 2SLGBTQIA+ topics, ADHD and Autism Spectrum, issues related to being a high achieving person, relationship issues, and more. I am always open to discussing other topics not listed here, as well, and can help to find a referral if they don't fall under my area of competence.
I offer virtual/online counselling across Canada. I am licensed as a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) for work with clients from Ontario, and as a Canadian Certified Counsellor for work with clients from Alberta, B.C., Saskatchewan, Manitoba,New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nunavut, N.W.T., and Yukon. I offer free 15-minute consultations so that you can
ask questions about therapy and get a sense of whether
I'd be the right fit for you. My prices currently range
from $160/hr to $180/hr depending on mode and location.
My services are covered by most health insurance plans, depending on the policy details.
Sincerely,
Jay Hinton (he/him), BA, BSc, MACP, CCC, RP (Qualifying)
